Sedation Dentistry
The Reality
Fear is real – so are pain, discomfort, and anxiety. A strong gag reflex or inability to numb with traditional anesthesia can make dental visits a nightmare. No matter the reason, your oral health may be in dire need of professional care if you’ve avoided seeing a dentist because of these issues.
The Result
Avoiding dental care leads to serious problems. Poor oral health will reduce your self-esteem, and you could develop deep tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, and blood borne infections. Sedation dentistry allows Dr. Greenfield to renew your smile and oral health. We offer three options for sedation to address mild, moderate, and significant dental phobia or physical discomfort.
The Solution
Before treatment begins, Dr. Greenfield will sit down and have a candid discussion with you about your concerns. Please be honest. The more he understands about your circumstances, experiences, and problems, the better we can serve you. After this conversation, he’ll develop a plan to provide a rewarding, relaxing experience tailored to your unique needs. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

FAQs
I haven’t been to a dentist in years because they really stress me out! How can I overcome this fear?
Dental fear is a real and potentially debilitating condition. It can keep you from the dental care you need for oral and overall health. Dr. Greenfield offers three levels of sedation, including IV sedation provided by a licensed anesthesiologist right here in our office.
If I choose sedation dentistry, will I be unconscious?
No. Oral and IV twilight sedation will allow you to enter a state of deep relaxation, but you can respond to our requests the entire time. General anesthesia, "going to sleep", is possible with IV sedation.
Will someone be watching me while I am sedated?
Definitely. A member of our dental team will monitor your vital signs, comfort, and needs throughout your procedure..
Is sedation dentistry safe for me?
Before recommending sedation dentistry, Dr. Greenfield will review your complete medical history to determine if it’s a wise option.
Can I drive after sedation?
When you choose oral or IV sedation, you need to have another responsible adult escort you to and from the appointment because grogginess can linger for up to 12 hours.
